Vandalism is a serious crime in Singapore!

According to the residents, there is a number of vandalism occurences happening in Valley Street 41 recently. Mr Simon, age 40 has experience car vandalism himself personally. He got only realised that his car got paint all over it the next morning when he was about to go to work. He deduced that his car most likely to be vandalised in the middle of the night after he has parked his vehicle in the multi-storey carpark(4th Storey). He parked his vehicle in between two other vehicle and his flat only 10 metres away is a HDB window facing my car. It was surprising that his car was the only one which got vandalised, the other two vehicles were spared. Click here to read more.

Who did this???

There is vandalism case which happened last week at Valley Street estate. Ms Rachel was actually queuing for her bus at the bus stop and she came across a "bunch" of primary school students using sticky notes to paste around the poster at the bus stop. She seems to be rather surprised by their actions. Ms Rachel said that the students might be expected to spread awareness to the public in town through various publicity stunts but isn't it considered as vandalism? Students should not be taught to spread awareness to the public by pasting sticky notes on the poster/government property. That is a wrong concept that their school has taught them! Vandalism is a bad habit!

Schools should take disciplinary actions towards the students if they were caught vandalising in or outside of the school. They need to be taught what should be the right way to do things. Some students, especially the younger ones tend to be more mischevious. They might love art too much and think that vandalism is a form of art. Anytime, anywhere. That is so wrong! Vandalism in SIngapore is a serious offend. Vandalism is whereby one criminalizes a number of different acts done in relationship to public and private property, namely, stealing, destroying or damaging public property; and, without the property owner's written consent.

Consequences for vandalism

A person who attempts to cause or commits an act of vandalism may be liable to imprisonment for up to 3 years and in conjunction may be punished with caning.

Beware of pickpockets!

Pickpocketing has become a very common and serious issue among residents especially. People sometimes tend to be forgetful and carried away very easily. Which is why pickpocket is very common and "easy to do". Since pickpockets usually have no way to gauge the contents of a wallet, save by the style of dress of the victim, they must take what they find. You are responsible for your own belongings and do your own precaution! It can take as short as 3 seconds for pickpocket to occur! However, there are several tips that I can advice you on precautions you should take to reduce the risk of being pickpocket.

How to avoid being pickpocket?
1) Never store huge amount of money in your wallet(best to place in another envelope)
2) Never place your valuables easily visible by outside
3) Always zip/close your bags properly
4) Never place your wallet at the back of your trousers(where you can't see)
5) Pickpocket normally occur in a crowd, make sure you check your belongings each time.

Let us avoid the risk of being pickpocket together!

Stop feeding the strays!

I have to raise this issue regarding in an increasing number of strays(cats & dogs) which is happening at Valley Street 41. Some residents have also noticed a sudden increase in the number of stray dogs and cats in that area. People have been feeding the stray cats and dogs and that is likely to be the reason why the strays are lingering around  that area for a long period of time.

The stray dogs are often seen around 4 pm onwards at Valley Street 41 travelling as a pack. Some of the muslim residents actually take a longer route home just to avoid the stray dogs. This causes inconvenience to the residents around. Some joggers also reported that they got bitten by the stray dogs while jogging. This is particularly dangerous because since the dogs are able to bite joggers(adults), they will most likely bite/attack young kids if they go nearer to the dogs.

Stray cats are also seen lingering around the void deck as told by the residents. People have been feeding the cats regulary and thus, they refuse to leave the area. The area is becoming very filthy because the people who fed that cats did not clean up after they feed. They simply leave the food there and expect the stray cats to clean it up for them. This totally unacceptable and because of that the area is often filled with pests! The cats are also making a lot of noise in the middle of the night, that might be due to hunger. The number of cats has been increasingly rapidly too! They might be un-neutered and thus, causes breeding in them. If this issue continues, it might affect the sleep of the workaholic residents as they are unable to get enough sleep due to the whimpering or noises the cats made.
How can we solve this issue?

There are several ways to solve this issues of the strays.
1) We can contact the SPCA to bring the strays back to the animal shelter and to find suitable homes for them.
2) We can contact AVA to capture the animals back and literally put them to sleep(I'm sure nobody wants to do this as it is too cruel)
3) Adopt them and bring them home(but please do license them!)
